Supplements That Help With My Focus

NOTE: The following supplements are vitamins and minerals I take to help me focus and get on with my day to day life. I am not a doctor, but from all the things I tried these seem to work the best for me.

So, a big struggle for me has been relaxing and paying attention. No matter what I do, I’m always on the edge and always feel stressed out no matter what. I started looking into natural supplements I could try to help me relax, and only a few helped.

I realised maybe others could go through the same problem so I thought I could write a short post to share the supplements I take which let me focus and relieve stress.

  • Magnesium 100mg: An overall health supplement that helps the function of cells, nerves, bones and muscles. It can calm hyperactivity.
  • Omega 3 1000mg: Helps promote heart health by reducing triglycerides but also improves brain health by providing EPA and DHA fatty acids.
  • Vitamin B Complex: Some of the vitamins in this complex can help the body turn food into energy.
  • Ginkgo Biloba 6000mg: Helps blood flow and oxygen delivery and opens the vessels that transport blood to the brain.
  • L-Theanine 400mg: This amino acid increases alpha brain waves which increase creativity. Warning: for some people this supplement can make them sleepy so beware it might impact your day.

I take these supplements everyday in the morning for the overall brain health and also wellbeing of my body. I have noticed since taking them I feel less stressed throughout the day.

These may not impact you the same way, all these supplements can be obtained from food so if you already have enough in your body, you will not notice a difference. For someone who doesn’t have the best diet, supplementing with these can help.

Another thing you could try is experimenting with nootropic blends which are a combination of vitamins, minerals and amino acids to aid brain function. There are many different brands on amazon so you need to find the one that works best for you.

Overall, if you struggle with focus don’t immediately assume you need to ask your doctor for medication because they can have pretty bad side effects. These supplements are naturally occurring in foods and have no side effects unless you may have certain medical problems in which case you need to consult with your doctor.

Government Publishes Draft Mental Health Bill

Many people are wrongly put in hospital due to autism. Recently the Government published a draft bill which will make this less likely to happen and to give autistic people more support.

The bill wants to do the following:

  • No longer include autism in the Mental Health Act to no longer wrongly detain autistic people even though they do not have a mental condition.
  • Provide right community services to prevent autistic people reaching crisis point.
  • Help autistic people get discharged from hospital sooner using Care and Treatment Review.

Autism is not a mental health condition therefore it is not the right place for a lot of autistic people. In many cases people have been over medication or restrained even when they shouldn’t.

Facts about autistic people in mental health hospitals

  • 2,010 people with autism or learning disabilities are in mental health hospitals in England.
  • 1,210(61%) of these are autistic
  • Around 185 of the autistic people are under 18.
  • In 2015 autistic people only made up 38% of people in mental health hospitals.
